Midwest Drag Racing Series
Get to Know Ryan Griffin, the Latest Driver to Join MWDRS!
Heads turned, eyebrows raised, and intrigue abounded at the track when a pro mod with Washington plates showed up to the drag strip at Flying H during the Smackdown. Ryan Griffin made his Mid-West Drag Racing Series debut and took home his first round win in Mid-West competition. We had the chance to sit down with him ahead of the Double Down in Tulsa.
Luke: So The first thing that pops out is that drive from Washington! What brings you to the Midwest?
Ryan: We ran the West Coast Promod stuff last year. We ran every race! At end of year the guy who put on the series decided he was done! So this year we wanted to start out with you guys, but it didn’t work out early because we were waiting on new transmissions plus the logistics of being able to keep our junk out here. Midwest racing was always somewhere we wanted to be. Our tuner (Joe O) has been racing with you guys in past so it was inevitable we gonna be here.
The trip from Washington to flying h was 2000+ miles. 3 solid days of driving. Nice drive.
Luke: That's some dedication! Hope we impressed!
Ryan: You guys were awesome from the get go! Keith excellent guy! Next year shall be fun!
Luke: Coming from the west coast, how different is it here in the Mid-West?
Ryan: Racing Midwest is a big difference compared to out here so far. Track prep and competition is second to none! I still feel to be the best you gotta beat the best! You guys got some of the best there is for sure! We are most definitely under dogs but that’s okay! We will learn and get faster as we go! We’re not too far off! We definitely got work to do. We got a lot fight in us! We won’t be pushovers for sure! We’ll keep everyone honest!
Our number 1 team goal is to always have fun no matter outcome of race.
Luke: I have to admit, when I heard you would be coming I did a little stalking online and I saw some Ford valve covers and zoomies on a turbo? Tell me about that!
Ryan: I’m a ford guy! It gets people to talk but really all our motors are noonan headed hemis. We had zoomies last year but we figured out they were working against us. It was a thing where I like to be different!
Luke: Speaking of being different, that paint job is amazing, what is the story behind that? I'm a fan of being different and that is one of the best looking mustangs I've ever seen.
Ryan: The car is all paint! There’s like 7 different colors. My paint guy is super talented and I told him to be creative and this is what he came up with! Plus it’s different.
Luke: Finally, are you ready for Tulsa? That's such an amazing event.
Ryan: We’re stoked for Tulsa! I’ll be there Tuesday! The crew will be there Wednesday ready to rock! I'd like to thank my crew Shawn, Mike, Kody, Tony, Corby, and my boy Dylan! Plus a big thanks to all my guys back home working for me while I do this. Also my wife for holding down the office while I’m gone!
The Summit Racing Equipment Mid-West Drag Racing Series rolls into Tulsa Raceway Park for the legendary Ronnie Hobbs World Finals on Oct. 17-18th.
